The Web Development course teaches delegates how to create cross-browser compatible web pages using HTML / XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Design guidelines and standards are discussed, as well as web accessibility. It also provides an introduction to JavaScript.

Course Objectives

Course Prerequisites

Familiarity with browsers and the Internet. Basic Windows knowledge of directories (folders) and file names. Some programming or web development experience is beneficial, but not required.

Web Forms
Creating forms in HTML. •  Different control elements used in forms e.g. radio buttons, checkboxes, selection lists and textboxes.
Cascading Style Sheets
Introduction to style sheets. •  Ways to incorporate style information. •  Style sheet selectors. •  Style sheet properties and values. •  The CSS cascade.
Design and Management
Accessibility guidelines. •  Basics of Search Engine Optimisation. •  Planning a web-site. •  Design considerations - some Do's and Don'ts. •  The importance of standards. •  Compatibility issues and testing.
Introduction to JavaScript
The role of client-side scripting and Dynamic HTML. •  Embedding scripts in HTML pages. •  Examples of Dynamic HTML.
